The Cart Abandonment Mystery
A growing online retailer saw cart abandonment rates spike to 85% seemingly overnight. Their internal team couldn't reproduce the issue.
Users were abandoning carts at the payment step, but only on mobile devices using specific payment methods. The bug only appeared under real-world network conditions with actual payment processing.
We replicated their exact production environment and tested with 15 different mobile configurations. Found that a third-party payment widget was timing out on slower connections, but the error message was invisible to users.
After fixing the timeout and error handling, cart abandonment dropped to 31%. The client recovered over 0,000 in monthly revenue that was slipping away silently.
The Data Corruption Crisis
